New Series: Learning What My Kids Are Learning (it's better than you think)
I've always had a dream of learning what my kids are studying in school, while they are studying it. So far that hasn't worked out. This time I believe it will be different.
This week was a big week for my son. He just started Yeshiva Ketana - and while he was (and still is) nervous about the change, he is also enjoying it quite a bit. Well, at least he liked the first day (hopefully that will last).
Either way, as I noted above (you did read the subtitle, right?), I have always had a dream/goal of learning what my kids are learning at school while they are learning it. That way, we can discuss it (if they are interested) and I can help them with any questions that come up (if they ask me). At the very least, I get to learn something.
So far, I’ve had a hard time living that dream. But this time I believe it will be different for one simple reason - this time I have substack. Why should substack be any different - because it makes it easy for me to get my thoughts out on what I’m learning as I am learning it.
And that’s exactly what I intend to do with my son and hopefully with my daughters when the time comes. At the moment, my son has started learning Meseches Sukkah with Gemara Rashi/Tosefos and Mishna Berura, chelek alef (part 1). So, that’s what we will also start learning (with whatever additions I wish to add).
But note, this is not going to be a structured series. I’m not going to prepare ahead of time. And I don’t have any particular plan on how to proceed or order that I am following.
Instead, I’m just going to learn and write down my thoughts and comments as I learn them. This may sound boring for you - and, who knows, it may be (how’s that for bad marketing). But I think actually think it will be the opposite. I think it will be engaging and real. And I invite you to join my in this series and see for yourself whether or not I am right.
